Benefits

Saint Luke’s Health System (SLHS) recognizes that its continued success depends on the health and wellness of employees. So it’s only fitting that employees and their families have access to a top-notch array of benefits.

We are dedicated to providing our employees with coverage choices that best fit their lifestyles, family needs, and financial responsibilities. And we are dedicated to providing benefits and health enhancement programs to help you maintain your Physical, Emotional, Financial, and Spiritual health. If you’re ready to experience how we care for your career, now is the time to explore Saint Luke’s.

Diversity

Diversity and inclusion are integral to Saint Luke’s commitment to providing the highest level of care to the communities we serve. By celebrating and embracing each other’s differences, we’re a stronger, more compassionate health system.

We are proud to have been one of the nation’s first hospitals to make diversity a priority in the early 1990s. Since then, we’ve implemented protocols and standards to ensure that our employees are trained to act appropriately in sensitive situations involving cultural, linguistic, spiritual, and ethnic differences.

Our commitment to employees

Saint Luke’s offers an inclusive work environment where differences are valued so individuals can achieve their fullest potential. Drawing on employees’ individual strengths makes Saint Luke’s a cohesive, integrated health system and enables us to better serve our patients and our communities.

Saint Luke’s diversity and inclusion initiatives have been recognized by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, Urban League of Kansas City, and Project Equality. And the Kansas City Business Journal named us among the Best Places to Work.

Inside View

In 1882, Saint Luke’s was a small hospital serving a frontier trading town. Today we are an integrated system of 10 hospitals with more than 9,500 employees caring for a metropolitan area of 2 million people, and our service area spans 67 counties in Missouri and Kansas.

As Kansas City’s only locally owned not-for-profit health system, we’re proud of our faith-based heritage, which we believe sets us apart and truly impacts the quality of care that we provide. And we are honored to be continually recognized for our commitment to quality, compassionate care.

Growing with the Kansas City region

For its first 107 years, Saint Luke’s was comprised of just one health care facility. That changed in 1989 with the construction of Saint Luke’s North Hospital and our acquisition of Spelman Memorial Hospital in the northern part of the Kansas City metropolitan area.

The hospital’s metropolitan presence continued to expand, with the opening of Saint Luke’s South Hospital in 1998 and Saint Luke’s East Hospital in 2006.

Crittenton Children’s Center, which cares for the emotional health of children and families, officially joined the health system in 1992.

Saint Luke’s Health System expanded outside the Kansas City area with the addition of Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton, Mo., in 1994, and Anderson County Hospital in Garnett, Kan., in 1995. Saint Luke's Cushing Hospital in Leavenworth, Kan., joined Saint Luke’s in 2001, followed by Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe, Mo., in 2003.

Timothy, a Saint Luke’s Medical Assistant…

has big heart and unwavering dedication to his patients. One of Timothy’s favorite stories is about a patient in the Saint Luke’s outpatient clinic. Upon hearing the man would be hospitalized during his wedding anniversary, the Saint Luke’s staff went into action. When the wife arrived on their anniversary day, she found her husband waiting with a beautiful flower arrangement. The couple was overjoyed with what the staff had done. This small display of compassion embodies the true spirit of the caring culture found at Saint Luke’s. Having Timothy and other staff like him as a resource has helped make our community a healthier and better place. That’s the Saint Luke’s experience.

Megan, a Saint Luke’s Registered Nurse…

truly can't imagine doing anything else. She began her career in the CVOR department at Saint Luke’s three years ago and has continued to grow as a nurse ever since. Whether holding a hand or retrieving a new heart, she enjoys making a difference in a patient’s life. And she is not alone. The entire culture at our award-winning health system is built upon communication, collaboration and teamwork. Many nurses develop relationships and special bonds with co-workers and their families outside of work. Megan feels blessed to have found her “home” and wholeheartedly plans on spending her entire nursing career at Saint Luke’s.
